Luoping 罗平
Review of
- Review updated on 13 février 2025228 kilometers east of Kunming, Luoping is located on the border of Yunnan, Guizhou, and Guangxi Province. Luoping’s vast expanse of flowering rapeseed fields is probably the most extraordinary artificial “sea” in the world. With rapeseed blooming always occurring around February and March, this sea of rapeseed flowers offers great views.
The most famous place for a walk among the rapeseed flowers is between the Golden Rooster Hills and the Nine Dragon Waterfall, where you can enjoy admiring the magnificent hill peaks. Since Luoping is a city populated mainly by the Buyi, you will also have the opportunity, after admiring the rapeseed flowers, to visit villages belonging to this ethnic group. There are many things to see when traveling to Luoping. Visits to the area include Jiulong (9 Dragons) Waterfall, Duoyi River and Lubuge Gorge.
Rapeseed early flowering period: Mid-February Rapeseed harvest period: Late February Best time to visit: Mid-February to late February at the latest.
Jiulong Waterfall
It consists of 9 rows of waterfalls grouped in a valley that forms a splendid view. The largest waterfall is 110 m wide and 56 m high. Each of them represents a dragon, hence its name “nine dragon waterfalls”.
Duoyi River
The river formed by the water of 5 underground rivers, is on the way to Lubuge Gorge, along the road you will find the shape of Guilin landscape.
Lubuge Gorge
Lubuge in Buyi language, means “beautiful village”. The main attraction is the dam of the power station and its artificial lake. The gorge is full of cliffs representing various realistic shapes. You will see cliffs shaped like “a moon recovering a monkey in the water” or a “rock with broken wings.”
Access to Luoping
3-4 hours by private car from Kunming. Possible and recommended stop on the way at the stone forest.
