Introduction to Menglun Botanical Garden
Xishuangbanna enjoys a splendid setting due to the great diversity of its tropical plants. It is known as the kingdom of flora with more than 5,000 species of tall plants, growing in the tropical forest. Menglun Tropical Botanical Garden extends on a small peninsula encircled by the Lupsuo River near Menglun City, 70 kilometers east of Jinghong.
The botanical garden was founded in 1959 by Cai Xitao, a famous Chinese botanist, and covers an area of 900 hectares. With a collection of more than 12,000 domestic and introduced botanical species, it is the largest tropical botanical garden in China. The breathtaking view from its garden has made it one of the most important tourist attractions in Xishuangbanna.
The best time of day to visit the botanical garden is in the afternoon, when the tourist fever has evaporated, giving way to the newfound serenity of nature. If you have time, do not hesitate to spend a night in the small hotel of the garden. Entrance fees: 80 RMB + shuttle (not obligatory): 50 RMB per person.
