Ximeng 西盟

Area close to Burma where the Wa minority lives, famous in the region for their dark skin and their special skills for acrobatic and artistic dances. The Wa are spread between Burma and the Southwest of China, they have their own language, and are very welcoming. Their houses are special, you can visit some of them by stopping at random in the villages crossed on the way. Ximeng is famous for its Thursday market, particularly well stocked. We suggest you stop in Mengsuo, a very small town with typical modern architecture, the stage is interesting for its lake, the Dragon Lake, with its traditional sanctuary and its pretty waterfalls. (entrance: 50 RMB). The signage of the sites is in Chinese and English, the walk can be done freely without worries. The small local market is authentic and well stocked (daily), the atmosphere is calm and the locals friendly. There are other waterfalls and villages in the surrounding hills, and from here you can reach the town of Menglian, very close to the border.
