Pu'er 普洱

Originally named Simao, this large town is the nerve center of trade in the region. Recently renamed Pu’er, it is also the geographical center of all the large modern tea plantations.
There is a pretty lake there, and a few kilometers from the city, a tea plantation open to tourists, with its small tea museum, its reconstructed traditional dwellings of the different minorities, as well as some very refreshing traditional song and dance performances. The entrance fee (50 RMB per person) gives free access to the tea plantations, and you can even go and harvest your leaves and make your Pu’er cake at harvest time, in spring and autumn.

About 15 kilometers north of the city of Pu’er, there is the small village typical of the tea and horse road, Nakeli, with a magnificent stone mill, a pretty point of stones and wood, for a pleasant walk in another time. The houses of the village have resisted the ages, and present carved woods of great finesse. Access to the village is free, and you can eat on the banks of the river.
