Below you will find the day-to-day tour of the “10 days Road from Kunming to Jinghong through Yuanyang Terrace Rice Fields” tour (10 days).
This trip to the south of Yunnan can be adapted according to your possibilities, your desires, your budget and your available time.
Daily program: 10 days Road from Kunming to Jinghong through Yuanyang Terrace Rice Fields (10 days)
Day 1: Arrival in Kunming ~ 1h transfer. Altitude: 1800m
Arrival in the daytime at Kunming Airport. Welcome by your driver (with a sign with your name) at the exit of your flight, then transfer Grand Park 5* hotel located in a pleasant district in Kunming Downtown. Rest of the day free to recover from your long flight, and make some first visits quietly on foot from the hotel. You can walk to the Emerald Lake, where locals love to walk, sing, dance and play music. Possibility to keep on to Yuantong Buddhist temple located 5 / 10min away from the park.

Day 2: Kunming - Stone Forest - Jianshui (B) ~ 4h30 drive
Meet with your English-speaking guide at 9:00. Transfer early in the morning to the Stone Forest site. There, you can enjoy a walk about 2 hours inside the site, between rocky peaks and sometimes through narrow paths.
Lunch at your own expense, then drive to Jianshui in the afternoon. Check in at Lin An Guest House, from there you can go and visit the museum having been arranged in the beautiful residence of the Zhu family, one of the best preserved in Yunnan, formed of a set of courtyards, pavilions and gardens.

Day 3: Jianshui - Yuanyang - Duoyishu (B, L) ~ 3h30 drive
In the morning, walk through Jianshui old town, including the big Chaoyang Gate which houses a small bird market. Then to the temple of Confucius, which is the second largest in China after that of Qufu, the hometown of the master. The temple consists of a large park with pond, several courtyards, beautiful porticos, temples and pavilions. Short drive to Tuanshan typical village, including the formerZhang family residence, and lunch at a local family home. Discover the old double dragon bridge, then drive to Yuanyang and the Duoyishu small village.

Note:
Yuanyang rice fields are filled with water from mid December to the end of February each year. From early March, the land is prepared for plantations that will last the entire month of April. The rice begins to grow in May. Starting from June, the rice fields take green colors, then yellow for the months of July to September. The harvests last all the month of October, then the rice fields are cleaned then put back in water in November / beginning of December. If you are interested, we can organize, with local farmers, a planting activity (April) or rice harvest (October), on a half day or a full day.
Day 4: Yuanyang Market and rice fields (B, L)
After breakfast, head towards one of the villages in the Yuanyang region to attend a market (set according to the lunar calendar and the day of the week). Meeting with different minorities, including Yi, Hani and Dai. Continue to a small Yi Minority village for a warm lunch in a local family, accompanied by traditional songs and dances.In the afternoon, you will keep on with a 2 to 3 hours hike through beautiful landscapes of rice terraces, and small villages.

Day 5: Duoyishu - Pu'er (B) ~ 7h30 drive
Visit of Yuanyang Xinjie Market. Long road then along the Red River valley, passing through Honghe and Yuanjiang. On the way to Pu’er, you will visit Nakeli small traditional village, formerly important step on the road of tea and horses. Discover on foot the wooden houses, the big mill and the walkway, meet the friendly locals and stroll along the small river, in an atmosphere of yesteryear. Dinner at your own expense. Day 6: Pu'er - Lancang (B) ~ 4h drive
Departure this morning towards the region of millenary tea trees in the Lancang River Valley, visit of the Museum of the Tea Route and Horses if it is open that day (closed on weekends), arrival for lunch at Laodabao Lahu village where you will attend a traditional dance show with lunch (show included, lunch at your expense, between 50 and 100 RMB per person depending on your appetite). Following the show you can walk in the village to meet its inhabitants. Then continue to the small village of Mengjing in a wooden inn held by a tea grower family.

Day 7: Jingmaishan - Dapingzhang - Menghai (B) ~ 4h drive
Road towards Dapingzhang traditional village and its centenary tea plantations, and meeting with locals. Also visit the Jingmai Village Pagoda. In the late afternoon, drive to the village of Menghai, dinner at your own expense. Overnight at Menghai Guowei Hotel (or comfort option at Jinlian Spa Resort).
Note:
Tea harvesting takes place every year from March to May and from September to November. It is possible to participate in the gathering with Bulang residents, and to learn more about the famous Pu’er tea making process.
Day 8: Menghai - Jinghong (B) ~ 4h drive
Visit this morning of the Menghai market before heading to Dai Manzhao village, where people still produce paper in a traditional way. Continuation of the road to another tea mountain, Bulang Mountain, located just opposite the Burmese border. Pretty little road that crosses many traditional villages that you can explore as and when you want.
Lunch at your own expense in Bulang village, then continuation by a forest track in a preserved tropical jungle part preserved with beautiful trees. Continue to Jinghong and check in at your hotel, dinner at your own expense.
