Daily program: Trek around the Jade Dragon Mountain (5 days)
Day 1: Lijiang - Fenglian - Liuqing (B, L, D). Altitude: 2350m
Early departure this morning to the village of Fenglian (Fengke). Lunch. In the afternoon, take 4 to 5 hours of walking on a path up and flat profile, passing small villages Naxi, along the valley of the Yangtze River. Accommodation in a Naxi family in Liuqing village (shared toilets, no showers).
Day 2: Liuqing - Baoshan (B, L, D). Altitude: 1900m
5 to 6 hours walk today, first to the top of the mountain called “Prince” (2470m), and through two tunnels dug in the mountains (90m and 60m). Continuation by a spectacular trail down the mountainside to the village of Baoshan, built on a large stone rock, and reminding for some Machu Pichu. Accommodation at the Mu family hostel (shared toilets and showers).
Day 3: Baoshan - Wumu (B, L, D). Altitude: 2000m
Discovery this morning of the fabulous village of Baoshan, built on a large rock. In some houses, tools, furniture and even an entire kitchen are dug into the rock. From every corner of the village you will have great views of the mountains and the Yangtze River. Lunch. After 20min of walking down the village, you will be waiting for a local boat that will bring you downstream – passing the village of Yangke, to the fields below the village of Wumu. Climb the 500m from the shore to the village. Like Baoshan, Wumu also has a long history of a few hundred years but the village is here quieter. The oldest center is also built on a rock, now well hidden between houses. The access road dates from 2014 and with the Suming and Mingwei villages in the same valley there are still nine active Dongba shamans. Accommodation at Huahuasei Lodge, the only inn in the valley, opened in 2013 by a Naxi / Belgian couple. Rooms with private bathroom.
Day 4: Wumu - Daju (B, L, D). Altitude: 1600m
Visit the village and surrounding fields, to meet the locals and understand their pace of life. Visit the house of a Dongba shaman who will show you his writings, his books. After lunch, 3h drive to Daju, located at the entrance of the famous Gorges du Saut du Tigre. Night in a local inn.
Day 5: Daju - Tiger Leaping Gorge - Lijiang or Shangri La (B, L)
Hiking 2 / 3h this morning in the Gorges du Saut du Tigre, today known to international hikers. In the afternoon, drive back to Lijiang, otherwise to the Shangri La region, passing by the amazing site of the limestone terraces of Baishuitai. Free dinner and installation at your hotel. End of our service.
