Skytree - Mengla canopy 望天树景区
The Skytree is a member of the Dipterocarpaceae family, a native species that grows exclusively in the rainforest near Mengla, close to the Laotian border. Its name says it all about its height, usually reaching 40 to 70 meters, and even 80 meters for the tallest. They are considered the giants of the Xishuangbanna forest. Botanists first discovered skytrees in 1975 and declared the area a nature reserve. The government then opened the area to tourism.
Skytree Rainforest Park is located about 130 km from Jinghong, 20 km from Mengla City. You can enjoy the rainforest from different angles: by a relaxing cruise on the river where you can observe the primeval forest, by a paved path for a refreshing walk, or finally by a suspension bridge 30 meters below the ground for a most fun ride.
The park is a bit far from the city, so we suggest you combine this visit with Ganlanba, the tropical botanical garden and the ethnic villages to make it a 2-day trip. You can also stop there during your trip to or from Laos from China. Entrance fees are 180 RMB per person.
