Tacheng 塔城
Located on the fertile banks of the Jinsha River Valley, the Golden Sand River, the village of Tacheng is best known for being the gateway to the Baima Protected Nature Park, which is home to the Yunnan snub-nosed monkey. Monkeys can be seen roaming the park very early in the morning, or by chance, you might come across a group while hiking. They live in a rich and protected ecosystem, quite rare because it is almost tropical at unusual altitudes and latitudes. The monkeys have long, silvery white fur to face the winter snows. The park offers the opportunity for beautiful little walks and hikes, but remember to be accompanied by a local guide who will know what to do in the event of an encounter with the animals. Located 4 hours from Cizhong and Lijiang, Tacheng offers a magnificent landscape of lush crops and a clear turquoise blue river, with a small, very traditional village. Discover our first choice of accommodation in the region, the Songtsam Tacheng Lodge.
