Introducing Weibaoshan
Located in Weishan district, around 61km south of Xiaguan, Weibao or Weibaoshan mountain is one of the best-known scenic spots in the Dali region. It is also one of the thirteen most famous mountains of Taoist belief in China. It was here that Xinluo, the legendary first king of the Nanzhao Kingdom, was born. Weibao Mountain covers an area of 19.4 km², with the highest peak reaching an altitude of 2,509 m.
The Wenchan Hall is dedicated to one of the region’s first Taoist leaders. It is located in the mountain because it is the only place where you can see the ‘Dance Fresco’, an ancient Taoist mural that is unique in Yunnan. Representing the habits and customs of the Yi people, the fresco is very realistic. The palace was built according to the principles of Taoist geometry.
On the slopes of the Weibaoshan mountain, the Qingxia temple is also known as the Laojun temple, in homage to the greatest Taoist god. The interior of the temple is solemn and lordly. Every year, between the 1st and 15th days of the second month of the lunar calendar, the local population gather at the Weibao mountain temple for a festival of Taoist pilgrims.
Weibaoshan is one of the most important Qi Gong centres on our Qi Gong tour of Yunnan.
Admission to the site is 40RMB per person.
