Introduction to Donglianhua
Donglianhua is a small village on the old tea and horse route. It stands out from the other villages because of the make-up of its population, the majority of whom are Hui minority Muslims, if not Buddhists.
The buildings of red earth, stone and wood transport the traveller to another time, on the endless meanders of the ancient trade routes of centuries gone by. The village has a small museum on Hui culture, another on the tea and horse routes, with numerous artefacts and old photographs, and a working mosque and museum.
Be sure to visit the upper floors of the mansions you visit, to enjoy the magical view over the distinctive roofs of this old village lost in time. A change of scenery guaranteed!
The village of Donglianhua is best visited on the road between Dali and Weishan, in the morning to enjoy the beautiful lights and prayers at the mosque. The museums close fairly early, so it is not advisable to plan this visit for the end of the day.
Entrance to Donglianhua village: 20 RMB per person.
