Shaping is best known for its market, held every Monday. The village is in complete turmoil, with people from all over the region coming to buy, sell or barter a wide range of local produce and handicrafts, as well as a multitude of manufactured goods.
Shaping lies to the north of Lake Erhai and Dali, close to the Bai villages of Zhoucheng and Xizhou, and on the road to Shaxi and Lijiang.
