Bai Ji Si Temple 百鸡寺
Introduction to the temple
Baiji Si literally means “the temple of 100 chickens”. Local Tibetans from Shangri La go to the Bai Ji Si temple, located on a beautiful hill overlooking the old town of Shangri La, to pray, and also to release chickens as a sign of sacrifice.
The temple is worth it because the walk to get there is a small challenge not to be taken lightly, especially because of the altitude, but it is worth it. Once at the top, you can enjoy a superb 360° view of Shangri La and the surrounding mountains. Thousands of Tibetan prayer flags are around the small temple, and on the stairs that provide access to the temple.
