Xingmeng Mongolian Village 兴蒙村

The Mongolian village of Xingmeng is located 15 km west of Tonghai city, halfway between Jianshui and Kunming, at the foot of Fenghuang Mountain. This village is unique because it is the only preserved Mongolian village in the interior of Yunnan, populated by descendants of Kublai Khan’s army.

The Mongols of Xingmeng have their own traditions and speak a language that is similar to the Mongolian language but only understood by the approximately 5,000 inhabitants of Xingmeng.

The houses are made of adobe: a mixture of clay and plants. The Mongols of Xingmeng live by growing vegetables. The village is very clean, there are very few animals compared to other villages.
