Below you will find the day-to-day tour of the “Trek around Jade Dragon Mountain” tour. This trip to Yunnan can be adapted according to your possibilities, your desires, your budget and your available time.
Daily program: Trek around the Jade Dragon Mountain (5 days)
Day 1: Lijiang - Fenglian - Liuqing (B, L, D). Altitude: 2350m
Early departure this morning for the village of Fenglian (Fengke). Lunch. In the afternoon, hike for 4 to 5 hours on an uphill path that then levels out, passing through small Naxi villages along the Yangtze River valley. Accommodation with a Naxi family in the village of Liuqing (shared toilets, no showers).
Day 2: Liuqing – Baoshan (B, L, D). Altitude: 1,900 m
5 to 6 hours of walking today, first to the summit of the mountain known as “Prince Mountain” (2,470 m), passing through two tunnels dug into the mountain (90 m and then 60 m). We continue along a spectacular trail descending the mountainside to the village of Baoshan, built on a large rock, which some say resembles Machu Picchu. Accommodation at the Mu family inn (shared toilets and showers).
Day 3: Baoshan - Wumu (B, L, D). Altitude: 2000m
This morning, discover the fabulous village of Baoshan, built on a large rock. In some houses, tools, furniture, and even entire kitchens are carved into the rock. From every corner of the village, you will have superb views of the mountains and the Yangtze River. Lunch. After a 20-minute walk down to the village, a local boat will be waiting to take you downstream, past the village of Yangke, to the fields below the village of Wumu. Climb the 500m from the riverbank to the village. Like Baoshan, Wumu also has a long history dating back several hundred years, but the village here is quieter. The oldest part of the village is also built on a rock, now well hidden between the houses. The access road dates from 2014 and, with the villages of Suming and Mingwei in the same valley, there are still nine active Dongba shamans. Accommodation at Huahuasei Lodge, the only inn in the valley, opened in 2013 by a Naxi/Belgian couple. Rooms with private bathrooms.
Day 4: Wumu – Daju (breakfast, lunch, dinner). Altitude: 1,600 m
Visit the village and surrounding fields, where you can meet the locals and learn about their way of life. Visit the home of a Dongba shaman, who will show you his writings and books. After lunch, drive three hours to Daju, located at the entrance to the famous Tiger Leaping Gorge. Spend the night in a local inn.
Day 5: Daju - Tiger Leaping Gorge - Lijiang or Shangri La (B, L)
This morning, enjoy a 2-3 hour hike in the Tiger Leaping Gorge, now famous among international hikers. In the afternoon, return to Lijiang or the Shangri-La region, passing by the stunning limestone terraces of Baishuitai. Dinner at your leisure and check-in at your hotel. End of our services.
