Daily program: Jianshui and Yuanyang in South Yunnan (4 days from Kunming)
Day 1: Kunming - Stone Forest - Yuanyang ~ 7/8 hours drive. Altitude: 1,800 m
Meet your English-speaking driver at 8:00 a.m. at your hotel. Long day of driving to Yuanyang. On the way, discover the Stone Forest site (entrance fee: 130RMB per person + 25RMB per person for a shuttle within the site). Enjoy a leisurely 2-hour walk around the site, among rocky peaks and along narrow paths, away from the crowds of Chinese tourists. Continue on to the Yuanyang region and the small village of Duoyishu. You will need to pay an entrance fee of 70RMB per person to enter the region. Check in at the comfortable Jacky’s Guest House located opposite the terraced rice fields. Dinner on site at your leisure.
Day 2: Yuanyang (breakfast) ~ 2-hour drive
After breakfast, departure for a village in the Yuanyang region to visit the morning market (held on specific days according to the Chinese lunar calendar). Lunch at your leisure. In the afternoon, optional 2-4 hour hike through stunning landscapes of terraced rice fields and small villages. Dinner at your leisure. Overnight stay at Jacky’s Guest House.
Day 3: Yuanyang - Jianshui (breakfast) ~ 4 hours' drive. Altitude: 1,400 m
Breakfast at the hotel. Possible visit to another market in the Yuanyang area before heading to Jianshui. Lunch on your own along the way. In the afternoon in Jianshui, visit the Confucius Temple (entrance fee: 40RMB per person), which is the second largest in China after the one in Qufu, the master’s birthplace. The complex consists of a large park with a pond, several courtyards, superb porticos, temples, and pavilions. You can also explore the gardens of the Zhu family residence (entrance fee: 30 RMB per person). Check in at the charming Lin An Inn. Dinner on your own.
Day 4: Jianshui – Kunming (breakfast) ~ 3.5 hours' drive. Altitude: 1,800 m
This morning, explore the small village of Tuanshan (entrance fee: 30 RMB per person) and its well-preserved traditional architecture. Stop at the beautiful Double Dragon Bridge. Lunch on your own. Return to Kunming in the afternoon. Check in at your hotel. End of our services.
