Shangri La Weather
When to travel to Shangri La?
It is cold from December to March at Shangri La, especially at Meili Mountains. Difficult to sleep well without a good heating mattress and heating in the room of your hotel. On the other hand, to see the old town of Shangri La, the Songzanlin monastery and the Tibetan houses under the snow remains a magic moment to live. If the low temperatures do not bother you too much, the scenery around Shangri La is superb with the snow-capped mountains, and the winters in the area will certainly be sunny.
Summers are sometimes very hot, and the sky is bright blue. If you do not like too hot temperatures, or too cold temperatures, we advise you to visit the Shangri La region during the Spring or Autumn months. Also access to the Meili Mountains will be passable (often a lot of snow on the road in winter), as is the Lijiang Road to Shangri La the Tiger Leaping Gorge and Baishuitai. In the summer, landslides make this road dangerous, so we prefer the new, shorter and less spectacular route.
