Minorities in Yunnan, China |

Yunnan
is the home to 25 minorities among all 56
in China. Each of the minorities has their
own custom, unique language, characters and
dressing style. |

To
acquaint with those minority people’s
cultures, one of the best ways is to join
their colorful, distinguishing festivals.
There are more or less 400 festivals and activities
happened within the minorities. Some of the
festivals are celebrated between certain minorities,
with some of the differences depends on the
time, style and local legends. To take the
“Torch Festival” as an example,
besides the most famous minorities of Yi and
Bai, the Naxi and Primi minorities will also
hold some celebrating events about it; same
as the “Water-splashing Festival”,
either minority of Dai, Blang or Achang commemorate
at the same time, with the same origin. |

Many
of the minorities are good at singing and
dancing in general, whenever in the festival
days, they all dress up their traditional
minority clothes, gathering together then
start their songs and dance. Teenagers will
take these opportunities to seek out their
lovers. Minority people regard the festivals
as a get-together party; singing and dancing
collectively shows their unity and harmonious
relations. |
